Accel-Heal

Accel-Heal® is a medical device that promotes and stimulates healing in leg ulcers through the use of electroceutical energy.

Developed and designed with ease of clinical application and patient comfort in mind, Accel-Heal® delivers a sequence of pre-programmed, low level and sub-sensory electrical energy through the skin surface. This helps to reduce the inflammation and improve cell migration to the ulcer site resulting in tissue repair.

Product Benefits

An Accel-Heal® treatment course consists of six, battery powered 48 hour single use units and electrode pads. The pads should be applied to healthy skin either side of the wound and then connected to the Accel-Heal® unit, during a standard care procedure (dressing change).

Cost Effective

The cost effectiveness of using Accel-Heal® in clinical practice was evaluated in a recent prospective, non-blinded study of 30 venous leg ulcers (28 patients with 1 VLU and 1 patient with 2 VLUs).

In the study, for the population of ulcers that healed:

  • Total costs post application of Accel-Heal® were 35% lower than costs prior to the application of Accel-Heal®. Consequently, treating ulcers at the optimum point in a care pathway would result in an annual saving of at least 35%
  • For the population of 30 ulcers as a whole, nurse visits were down 34% and the number of dressings was down 26%
  • All patients demonstrated either complete healing or a reduction in wound size

Applying Accel-Heal®*

It is recommended that Accel-Heal® is used on leg ulcers that will comfortably fit under a 10cm x 10cm dressing and following 8 weeks of best practice guidelines from a qualified practitioner but has not healed or is not on the path of healing.

  1. Clean the skin surrounding the wound with the alcohol wipes included in the pack and attach the electrodes to either side of the wound or dressing area on healthy skin

  2. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds to activate the device

  3. Flashing green light indicates activation

  4. Connect the pads to the Accel-Heal® device

  5. Dress the wound with a standard wound dressing, tuck the unit into the external dressing and leave to work for 48 hours
